Speaking of the final shot: I read somewhere else that
leaving the door open is both a callback to Hoffa leaving the door open earlier in the movie, and perhaps the final shot of The Godfather.
Maybe it’s obvious to others, but I was mind blown by this.

Cannot stop thinking about this. There’s a scene in the middle which involves singing and it blew me away. The ending, a nice little coda, is also insane. A truly powerful movie about the power of art/painting/cinema.

Here's the thing: this is a superhero/comicbook movie that is a slow-paced, R-rated character study (no matter whether you think it is superficial or even good) without tons of CG explosions or even a happy ending...none of these things are what the general moviegoing public associates with comicbo...
