Re: Dunkirk General Information

So...Hacksaw Ridge (2016) got six Oscar nominations, which does not bode well for Dunkirk's Oscar chances. The Academy hates giving Big Five nominations to blockbusters from the same genre two years in a row: ("Big Five" = the prestigious categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Ac...

Re: Dunkirk General Information

Dunno why, I feel like all this premature Oscar talk may give the movie bad luck. The Academy and Nolan have a strange relationship, but then again Nolan doesn't do "conventional" films. When should we start hearing rumblings about the movie being possibly screened to studio executives? I thi...

Re: Dunkirk Oscar Chances

They did want to honor him, seeing as how they increased the number of Best Picture nominations to ten, and then nominated Inception. However, I believe that sentiment as worn off, seeing as how The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar were completely snubbed in all the prestigious categories. Those t...

Re: Dunkirk General Information

I think it's superstition, backed up by a small pattern. I am not worried about a war movie being nominated. I'll be worried if Hacksaw Ridge wins Best Picture or Best Director. Yeah, same. I can't see HR winning in important categories. La La Land probably will win most of the them. I don't think ...

Because it was a direct quote, but I forgot to go back and add the quotation marks after finishing up the sentence.

Edited to add the quotation marks.

Nice try, but no sexism here.

Re: Logan (2017)

Terrible trailer, but I'm guessing just like with the first trailer, people will say it was awesome anyway, because they don't know how to judge a trailer separately from their hype for the film itself. lmao anyone who says the first trailer wasn't awesome or great has no place even talking in this...

Re: Box Office

Look, I get your concerns, but a lack of lots of buzz for a war movie not featuring Americans shouldn't have come as a surprise. I said here ages ago that I didn't expect this movie to do as great as Nolan's previous works. The genre is a tough sell, and a movie about a non-American ww2 battle is e...

Re: Box Office

Dunkirk will do very good internationally, that's for sure. But as I said earlier, it really depends on the reviews it gets if the movie will do good in the USA (and that's not only for the USA). And the marketing needs to be on point The marketing for this film has been unremarkable so far, and th...
