Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

The Bourne Trilogy - These still hold up, but the most fascinating thing about them is how they seem downright quaint post-Snowden. What once seemed borderline fantastical and heightened near sci-fi suddenly feels obvious. Ultimatum is one of the defining texts of the Bush era.

Re: Tenet - Box Office Discussion/Speculation

One film can’t save theater industry. who ever said that it would? I see this statement all the time and it's arguing against something nobody actually believes. The late summer / fall winter slate is packed. Mid to high budget studio programmers are out every 1-2 weeks from August to December. To ...

One thing Scott does not write is clickbait. Solid piece.

Re: The Gray Man (TBD)

but the whole idea is challenging each hero to sacrifice one for the needs of the many, and the tragedy is that every single one of the heroes who does sacrifice someone (one they deeply care, no less) ultimately loses anyway. Quill, Scarlet Witch, etc. Utilitarianism is more-or-less consequentialis...

Re: The Gray Man

I would like to believe that Gosling has some guarantees from the Russo that it's not going to be a "theme park" film, or a cgi fest. Re: The Gray Man

I mean Blade Runner is one thing with an auteur like Denis directing, plus how it ends it was likely one and done for him but being the type of role we all know he played of course a return in some form was possible. This in comparison has a pair of directors known for making “theme park films” not...

Re: The Gray Man

Surprised Gosling is signing on to a potential franchise. I thought he wasn’t interested in that. i mean 2049 was already a "potential franchise" and being able to launch your own franchise is quite different from joining marvel or DC obv plus after so many flops he wants to buy his cred back lol h...

Re: Hamilton (live and recorded)

I have yet to see this but I came across this piece about the actual Hamilton as compared to the one from the musical and now I'm wondering whether or not I should even bother: https://thebaffler.com/salvos/hamilton-hustle-stoller art can be many things. one thing art is not? a pure history lesson....
