Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

After the DGA loss, I can confidently say that Nolan is not winning BAFTA at this point, let alone the Oscars. Del Toro is now a 1000% lock for Best Director. People still believe that Dunkirk is a contender for Best Picture ? Seriously ?. It's winning sound categories, that's it. Such a shame, if ...

AwardsDaily: Predictions Friday — Why Dunkirk Is Still in the Race for Best Picture and Other Odd Findings http://www.awardsdaily.com/2018/02/09/predictions-friday-dunkirk-still-race-best-picture-odd-findings/ Eh, unless it sweeps at the BAFTAs I think its wishful thinking. But who knows.... precur...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

Unfortunately, it seems to be The Shape of Water's to lose. It's not even del Toro's best film, though to be up front I'm not really a fan of his work. I respect him as a filmmaker and his love for the craft, but have little interest in the worlds he creates. It's just a shame to think a movie as b...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

I look at it like this, Fincher, PTA, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Leone, Tarantino have all never won Oscars for Best Director. That's pretty good company to be in but I hope that Nolan wins one at some point in his career. It took Scorsese forever to win just once. He's still a great director if he never ...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

I think Nolan comes off as incredibly likable in interviews and all that. He just doesn't play the awards season games and isn't super phony. Which tbh makes him even more likable to me. Going off this, Nolan also doesn't pander to Oscar voters for the most part. For instance, "Shape of Water" incl...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

GDT is a vibrantly warm cuddly dude. I don't love a single one of his movies, but I'll buy a ticket to anything he ever makes just to support him. Similar to Rian Johnson. Nolan's cerebral and not that kind of dude. He has a lot of respect, but a lot less love. That's the name of the game with awar...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

But we have heard of the same complaint for many years that Nolan isn’t personable when campaigning. He comes off as cold and uncaring. Didn’t David Poland tweet recently that Oscar voters were complaining of his demeanour? The award race is a popularity contest. GDT has being campaigning way more ...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

tbh a big part of it I think is that GDT is just ridiculously likable and Nolan aint . -Vader what when did this become deltorofans.com? Edit: Nolan's massively likeable here . But we have heard of the same complaint for many years that Nolan isn’t personable when campaigning. He comes off as cold ...

Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

Finally saw "The Shape of Water". Pretty good film, but certainly not worth the precursor hype, especially for Best Director since it was pretty conventional. Nothing overly special about it outside of a few very beautiful moments and some solid production design and cinematography. I'd still rather...
