Re: The Mandalorian (TV)

So, this is what fans who were disappointed in the Sequel Trilogy (TRoS excluded) must have felt watching those movies, huh? Well, unlike them, I’m glad there are many who are enjoying this, but I think after two seasons it’s safe to admit it’s just not for me. Feels almost exactly like what many ex...

Re: HBO's Succession

Episode 1 is noticeably jarring as far as style goes. I remember being really turned off by it - it's just way too much, and calls attention to itself too often. It reminded me of the weird flourishes Scorsese put into the Boardwalk Empire pilot (like the circle out transition) that the rest of the ...

Re: The Last of Us - It can't be for nothing (Part II announced)

As for negatives, m4: I agree that pacing can sometimes lag during either the beginning of Abby’s story where basically after massive investment in Ellie and Joel for 1.5 games we suddenly switch and need to spend time fostering a new relationship with someone with immense baggage, OR during the mom...

Re: The Last of Us - It can't be for nothing (Part II announced)

Continue you guys' circle-jerk Wow, okay then. Or, you know, those of us who have actually played it just genuinely love the game? You’re the one who kept dropping in to tell us we couldn’t compare it to MGS2, and how disappointing it is, and now how we’re just “circle jerking.” I was skeptical of ...

Re: The Last of Us - It can't be for nothing (Part II announced)

An unforgettable experience. And a landmark in video game storytelling. Got spoiled by the leaks and felt conflicted, but took a wait-and-see approach. Turns out the things I felt most conflicted about were either: a) executed well, or b) flat-out not true (still don't read if you haven't played the...

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Heartbreaking to read these reactions. I’ve loved the ST and was hoping for a fitting conclusion. Will wait to see for myself, obviously, but reading people I respect tear it to shreds is a sad sight indeed.

At the very least I hope there’s a fitting send-off for Kylo.

Re: HBO's Watchmen

I think Lindelof got Manhattan much better than Snyder. This is what Berardinelli says about Snyder's version which I agree to some extent. Billy Crudup (with a huge CGI assist) gives us the Dr. Manhattan Snyder apparently wants: a detached, emotionless enigma. In the comic book, Dr. Manhattan is a...

Re: HBO's Watchmen

•shakespear•’s post on manhattan is superb and i agree with him. it made me consider things i may not have thought of before. one thing tho: if we’re to think of jon’s powers as a “cage” and suffering, and if we entertain the possibility of him transferring his powers via that egg (although persona...

Re: HBO's Watchmen

They did it. They really, actually did it... Been following this show since it was announced with high hopes as both a Watchmen and Lindelof fan, and it truly delivered something bold, meaningful, and distinct in a Last Jedi-esque manner (though it was certainly even bolder and weirder than TLJ). A...
