You're wrong. Most of the time the well known actors get most of the cash. Will Smith pulls in $30 million a movie; no director gets anywhere near that.

I want to say, first of all, that I enjoyed PJ's Lord of the Rings. That said, since watching that and King Kong, I've noticed that PJ's problem is film time management.
