Re: Christopher Nolan For Making A Bond Movie?

I'd be all in for a Bond or two from Nolan, especially if it were done period, as right now I'd be happy to see Bond take leave from contemporary, at least till the world rights itself or finishes its descent into Hell. The only problem I see is whether Nolan would actually cut it like a Bond film o...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

I mean, we gotta remember why he was hired in the first place. His resume was impressive, I'm sure, but Mr. Nolan probably chose him mainly for his C H O N K, i.e. his physical ability to shoulder the giant IMAX camera for hours at a time and wield it like a handheld. Your average cinematographer w...

Re: Oppenheimer - Trivia

Anybody here ever see the tv series MANHATTAN? While there is a bit of a soap opera feel at times, I found it to be a totally absorbing drama leading up to Trinity (at which point it was cancelled, though the plan was to go many years beyond ww2 and get into the cold war in a big way.) We actually r...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

Has anyone ever claimed that The Batman and Blade Runner 2049, who were shot on digital and non-IMAX film cameras, look worse than Interstellar and Oppenheimer? I've never made that claim, but I will now if you like (that's based on seeing none of them on the big screen and not having seen OP at al...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

Nolan's IMAX fetish greatly reduces the number of cinematographers he can work with to only Hoyte, basically. I would like to see him get out of his comfort zone and work with Emmanuel Lubezki (Birdman, The Revenant), Greig Fraser (The Batman, Dune), Roger Deakins (Blader Runner 2049, No Country Fo...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

For my money, I tend to connect more with digital work when the filmmakers are using the latitude and freedoms found within the digital workflow than folks who try to create a filmic look with digital. Dion Beebe's work being perhaps the high water mark there. And for the record, Dune and The Batma...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

When and how/why did you have a talk with Greg Fraser? For articles that ran in ICG magazine on MANDO and DUNE. Was supposed to do BATMAN as well but that fell out (probably just as well, when I finally saw it, I was a little less than thrilled with how some of it seemed so obviously done with the ...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

I would love to see the result of Roger Deakins or Greg Fraser with Nolan!!! Deakins would never work with Nolan because they have a massive disagreement with film vs digital Fraser is good but I don’t see his style working well with Nolans I feel I’d like to see Nolan work with someone like Christ...

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

ICG article on the film's cinematography is up:

https://issuu.com/icgmagazine/docs/august2023

starts on page 22. They changed the title from IMPLOSION but I'm still okay with it.

Re: Hoyte van Hoytema's Cinematography

Interview with Hoyte van Hoytema https://imgur.com/LvPcswo.jpg https://imgur.com/ooa0uhR.jpg Anyone got scans of this? They're up on blu-ray.com in the Oppenheimer thread for MOVIES. The piece is not too comprehensive though. Incidentally, tried to send a PM two days ago, but it is still in OUTBOX....
