Wait, did they mirror the shot in the final film? (for continuity left to right and to use the sun's position to their favour i guess).

Re: Dunkirk Oscar Chances

If Inception got the Best Pic nomination (with the reception it got), Dunkirk will get it as well. Dunkirk will probably be like Fury Road and Gravity and sweep the technical awards. Cinematography (45% win): This year is gonna be between Hoyte and Deakins, my guess would be Deakins because BR is pr...

Re: Dunkirk General Information/Discussion

Blocking, staging, and sometimes framing are not the dop's remit Blocking and staging aren't the DP's remit, but a good one can make suggestions to improve it. Framing is a remit though, unless you're working with something like Fincher, but even then, it's the DP's job to make the best of it and a...

Re: Dunkirk's Cinematography

He does mostly commercial stuff, here you can see some of the stuff he's done.
He is his own DP on commercials, so in a sense he is still DP'ing. Also almost every commercial he's shot is shot digitally. (same goes for Hoytema though)

Re: 'Dunkirk' Nolan Fans Member Reviews (NFometer)

I understand why you're kind of disappointed with Dunkirk. However, something you have to take into consideration is that some reviewers and people as well, look at what the film is trying to achieve within its own parameters, or what does the film think of itself. Is it achieving what it's trying t...

Re: Dunkirk's Cinematography

My favorite shot in the film was right after Gibson drowned, him floating away, only his hand visible through the ladder. It was probably just a second or two, but that image affected me so much, it felt like an eternity. Jesus I think I've missed it. I was just utterly shocked and kicking myself f...

Re: 'Dunkirk' Nolan Fans Member Reviews (NFometer)

Saw it in 2K Imax, which was still really immersive and everything connected wonderfully. Dunkirk felt like chaos controlled perfectly by Nolan. Although the dialogue is sparse and the running time was short, it really felt like a Nolan film. Nolan's quick editing felt wonderfully chaotic , but at t...
