Re: 'Interstellar' Reviews Discussion

I'd say the real issue is the pacing of the scene instead of the dialogue. Think of a conversation in a Steve McQueen film and imagine Nolan directing it.

Re: Interstellar's Soundtrack

I honestly don't know that. The number of people who are on the potential call lists for scoring sessions in any of the big cities is huge. Knowing Hans' history with solo musicians though (Marr, Pharrell et al.), and that he has a history with the organ from his childhood, he may have brought in a...

Re: Interstellar's Soundtrack

Pipe organs have been used in a lot of scores over the years but as far as I know the most "prominent" organist who performed on one was Simon Preston, for Rollerball . Otherwise, it's usually one of the LA or London session musicians who handle it. Who are the session musicians? Some of them are s...

Re: Interstellar's Soundtrack

Lol, yeah, there are quite a few good organists in the world. Could have been the dude at Temple Church (can't remember his name) but more likely it was just another freelance London musician who does keyboard work on scores. I'm sure it'll be in the credits as a soloist, whoever it is. Would you h...

Re: Interstellar's Soundtrack

I'm wondering who played the organ in the soundtrack recording. Is there a lot of great organ players around? How many of them have already worked with film music?

Re: Interstellar Oscar Chances

No I haven't, and as I said I frankly have no interest whatsoever in it based on the trailers I've seen. I'm simply going off the pundits reactions which are pinning it more as a Black Swan type of film and it may only win for Best Actor just as Black Swan only won for Best Actress. Could be. Howev...

Re: Interstellar Oscar Chances

Don't get me wrong, I understand that...but as the Oscar pundits have put it even, we have no clear frontrunner right now. Boyhood is probably the closest to being such but you seem to agree that it would have an almost record low number of nominations which puts the odds against it. Yes, on paper....

Re: Interstellar Oscar Chances

Since when is 9 nominations considered ONLY?! :? It isn't. It's just that Gravity had more. (...) but realistically people we should be talking about no more than FIVE with Boyhood...and while a few films have pulled off this feat with 5 or 6 nominations, only one has done so in the midst of a jugg...

Re: Interstellar Oscar Chances

This is true...as is the the case with Best Editing, perhaps even more so if I recall correctly. Now we know of course that Inception received neither nomination last time so I won't hold my breath for Interstellar... But if Interstellar makes the Best Picture lineup and isn't the most viable conte...
