Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
I feel terrible for Johnson. No director should ever be treated like this by their cast. Especially when the film is such a big critical and commercial success and a high point in each of their careers. I agree. Whilst I am no fan of the TLJ or much of the new series of SW, ultimately the film was ...

- shades of Apocalypse Now - again, Deakins and Newman just steal the show Thanks for that antovolk, I am now alot more hyped for this. What kind of Newman score do we get? Shawshank/Road to Perdition? Or Skyfall? When Thomas Newman is on form there are not many better composers at stealing the mov...

Re: The Ballad of Richard Jewell (2019)
This screened at the AFI festival is generally getting good notices. Many people calling it's Eastwood's best since Million Dollar Baby (people really need to stop forgetting about Letters from Iwo Jima). https://twitter.com/NextBestPicture/status/1197391241555648512 Agree, Letters From Iwo Jima is...

Re: Joker (2019)
Excellent film. One of the best I have seen in some time. So happy the backlash didn't work to suppress attendance. Cancel culture is really pathetic and I am so happy this film has been as successful as it has. I'll be interested to see if the impact the film had on me holds up upon second viewing....

Re: 2018-2019 Awards Season
Maybe voting at these major award shows should be weighted in favour of members of the catergory being voted on. e.g. all academy members get to vote for 'Best Editing' but the votes from registered editors carry a weighting to increase the chances that the winner is being rewarded on technical meri...

Re: Untitled Nolan Film - General Information/Discussion/Speculation
I'm sure he was approached by WB execs to be their Kevin Feigie and guide their films, but Nolan simply replied: "I don't understand these f*king superhero stories. I did Batman because he is a simple character with no extraordinary abilities that you can put in a world resembling ours. I do not kn...

Re: First Man (2018)
Everything Vader is saying about Neil, is why I think it works. Chazelle/Singer don’t seem to be bending over backwards trying to make us fall in love with Neil. It’s not sugarcoated like most Hollywood biopics. It’s quite a depressing movie. I wasn’t really on board either the first time I saw it....

Re: Untitled Nolan Film - Crew Discussion/Speculation
I can't see Hoyte not being part of this film but it got me thinking about Wally Pfister. What a pretty dramatic fall from grace he had after he went off to direct Transcendence. That film really seems to have hit him hard. Which is a shame because he is a talented cinematographer.

Re: The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
I couldn't finish this. And I can't remember the last time that has happened. I will try and get around to it again and maybe start from the beginning and see if I was having an off day. I have a love hate relationship with the Coen brothers. No Country, The Man Who Wasn't There, Lebowski and A Seri...

Re: Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Malek and the music elevate this film. I don't quite see why it warrants to backlash it is getting from some critics (other than for the Director). In a disappointing year (personal opinion) this was at least somewhat entertaining for a watered down biography.
