It looks as though the viral Mind Crime game for Inception is becoming more involving as the days pass. After three new production stills were released this week, players found a mysterious poster within the game displaying the film’s dream machine and a note attached reading “SEND TO CPT DARREN BARTEL.” Nothing came of the find until forum member The_Maestro did an online search for Cpt Darren Bartel and found a video on YouTube of Christopher Nolan interviewing various dream researchers!
The video starts off innocently enough, but once one of the researchers mentions subjects collectively sharing a dream experience and a military project called “Project Somnacin,” things get intriguing. Considering Inception’s dream machine was unveiled as Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous Device (via Pasivdevice.org), it appears viral marketing for Inception has finally kicked into the next gear.

Since its launch on April 3rd, Warner Bros. along with the Christopher Nolan team haven’t used Stage 2 of the Inception Mind Crime viral game to launch new material. This was unlike Stage 1, if you recall, where we uncovered the first and second Inception posters from this game.
But now, all of this is starting to change. During the past couple of days, brand-new Inception production photos have been making their way into the Mind Crime game. Some of our forum members are speculating that this will continue to be daily occurrence, possibly up until the launch of the third (and possibly final) Inception trailer.
We’ll keep this story and the gallery below updated.

Long ago, we heard that Inception was about dreams. “Your mind is the scene of the crime.” And just recently, Christopher Nolan openly confirmed the rumors that Leo DiCaprio’s character and his team possess a technology that enables them to enter people’s dreams. This is that technology.
Last Saturday, at the Warner Bros. expo at WonderCon 2010, some Inception shirts were slipped into a few grabbags. (Full size images of the shirt are below.) The most interesting thing about this shirt is the QR code on the back. Decoded with this QR decoder, the decryption is a string of text: “http://www.pasivdevice.org/“.
This is a Warner Bros. website that was acquired on March 15, 2010 and the website is a manual for this device, the Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous (PASIV) Device.
Let the madness ensue.
Thanks to all of our awesome forum members for uncovering this!
You guys rock.

We’re done with the April Fools jokes (at least until next year), so you can read the rest of this story without any worrying. Inception’s viral marketing website has officially launched its Stage 2 section.
Stage 2 seems to be an improvement to the original Stage 1 Mind Crime game. Now equipped with a leaderboard and instructions, Mind Crime will certainly prove to be more interesting.
Your player, now identified as the “Extractor” (of ideas? thoughts? dreams?), has to navigate through a city maze, avoiding attacks from “Projections.” Before finding the endpoint in the city, you must first collect two “Keys,” which look like little pieces of paper with numbers written on them. These numbers are actually the combination to the safe at the end of the game. Certainly, this version of the game is a bit more involved and there are a ton of things to take away from it.
There’s a few more Facebook integration features too. “Connect with Facebook to share your mazes, target friends, and compete with other players in the leaderboards. Create an asset, which your friends will try to extract. Target your friends and other players to extract their hidden assets.”

With only three days left until the second Inception trailer comes out, we’ve found a little easter egg in Inception’s first viral marketing game, Mind Crime. It seems like a few of our forum members have found this almost simultaneously. One of our members, tatebattista, emailed me at about the same time that apw posted this on the forums. From what we know, it seems like this new poster can only be found by playing Mind Crime from a link to an already created maze.
UPDATE (5/8/2010): With the launch of the new Inception website, a new super-high-quality version of this poster was released. Enjoy thoroughly.

Last week some of our sharp-eyed forum members discovered that the Inception movie website, www.inceptionmovie.com, had begun changing. Since the site’s inception (ha) in August, there was a spinning top, much like the shot from the first teaser. Last week, the spinning top had begun slowing down. Each day, there was a drop in the speed of the spinning and it began wobbling more and more. On December 15th, it stopped. Inception’s viral marketing campaign had officially launched.
Clicking on the motionless top redirects you to: www.yourmindisthesceneofthecrime.com. Warner Bros. obtained this domain name on October 30, 2009.
