Stage 3 on Inception’s Mind Crime Game Opens

Posted on Monday, June 7th, 2010 at 7:43 pm by George

ViralThe third stage in Inception‘s Mind Crime game is now accessible at http://www.mind-crime.com/stage3. It’s relatively similar to Stage 2, but has a few nifty additions. New gameplay features include “subconscious security” characters with guns that shoot at you when detected and the ability to punch enemies into a stunned state. Two new items were also added: a stopwatch that slows down time and sunglasses that provide immunity to detection.

Map creation has undergone the most improvement, now with tools for roads, parks, and structures. The structures (under the Palette option) range from warehouses and theaters to towers and ballparks, unlocked as points are accumulated and your level increases. There is also a new Mod area where you can customize the difficulty of being an extractor or set the security for when others attempt to extract your assets.

Although no new promotional materials seem to be currently available in the game, Mind Crime is increasingly being used as a platform to release new material over time rather than providing immediate rewards. It took a few weeks for Stage 2 to unveil a poster and a mysterious note that lead to a viral video, so keep a watchful eye on the game’s environment for anything new. With Inception releasing in less than six weeks, Stage 3 will surely bring some exciting content in the near future.

Inception Viral Marketing Hits the Streets

Posted on Sunday, June 6th, 2010 at 4:22 pm by George

Viral Mr. Will-W attended a marketing round table for Inception over a week ago where the general feeling described was a loss at how to creatively market the film. He did mention a public transit marketing strategy discussion took place, and it appears that has manifested itself into what is now appearing in Chicago.

The guys over at Screen Rant recently noticed some strange posters with the phrases “THOUGHT THEFT IS REAL” and “PROTECT YOUR THOUGHTS” in the streets of Chicago. Each poster ends with the phrase “LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT MIND CRIME” and a QR code. The QR code leads to http://www.whatisdreamshare.com/, a viral site recently discovered by our forum members after cryptic commercials stating “DID YOU KNOW THE GOVERNMENT CAN ACCESS YOUR MIND” allowed text messages to be sent in during a limited time frame for further information.

The campaign is reminiscent of District 9′s public transit marketing that went on last summer, although Inception’s may be a bit more ambiguous. While District 9′s left people with a website, the Inception posters just have a QR code leading to site that does not seem tied to a film at all. But it remains to be seen how widespread this will go. Will it be a focus point for the film’s marketing, or is this just something for the fans to enjoy?

New Viral Website Launches via TV Commercial

Posted on Sunday, June 6th, 2010 at 12:59 am by AlexHaas

Alright, this stuff is starting to get a little strange. It appears that another new Inception viral website has launched. It all started early Saturday morning around 2am when a strange commercial aired during The 40-Year-Old Virgin on USA network. We don’t have a video of the commercial, but postal, one of our forum members, described it to us.

I’m with some friends and not really paying attention to the TV at first, but i still notice that it’s a very vague commercial, with various text like “DID YOU KNOW THE GOVERNMENT CAN ACCESS YOUR MIND”? playing over a simple scene of a wall in some city, with city noises playing in the background. [...]

“KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
AND YOUR MIND CLOSED”

TEXT MINDCRIME TO [5500] FOR MORE INFORMATION

We soon found out that this commercial was serious about you texting MINDCRIME to that number and, unfortunately, we were too late. Apparently, there was a time limit for this. No one was paying too much attention or even watching this commercial (Who can blame them? It was 2am.) and by the time we were able to text this number, we received responses such as “ACCESS DENIED” and the like.

Luckily, another one of our forum members (gatomonic) saw an incredibly similar commercial that aired during Juno and instructed the viewer to “TEXT WAKEUP TO 5500 FOR MORE INFORMATION.” Gatomonic was able to fire off a text message in time to receive the following reply: “What is Dream Share? Go to http://www.whatisdreamshare.com to learn the truth about mind crime.”

There you have it. Go have some fun.
And thanks to our awesome forum members! We need to start giving away detective badges. ;)

Mind-Crime Stage 3 Opening Soon?

Posted on Friday, June 4th, 2010 at 2:42 pm by George

Viral It was just over two months ago that T-shirts were handed out after the Warner Bros. WonderCon presentation with a mysterious QR code on the back. After being decoded, the decryption string led to a new viral site for Inception’s dream machine at http://www.pasivdevice.org/.

Just yesterday, strange tin boxes were sent out containing a spinning top from Inception as well as a USB containing the final trailer. But what was most interesting was another QR code printed on top of the tin box. Decoded with this QR decoder, the decryption is another string of text forming a URL: http://mind-crime.com/. Unlike the PASIV Device site, Mind-Crime has been around for months now, but has not seen a new stage open in quite some time. Since Inception is releasing in just six weeks and there are two stages left to be opened, this new viral discovery might just be a hint that we can expect Stage 3 access soon.

As of today you can also play Mind-Crime on Android phones.
