“I’m being plummeted through a floor at the moment,” Tom Hardy told MTV during a break in shooting. But even when the cameras are off, Hardy has been seen boxing with Leonardo DiCaprio on set. And while the teaser for Inception showed some gravity-defying brawling, the interactions between Hardy and DiCaprio appear to be just for fun. ”He’s a big MMA fan, so we’ve been kicking each other. Kicking and elbowing each other,” Hardy said. “He keeps bruising me. He gives me as good as he gets.”
Although most set photos seem to find just Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page in various locations around the world, Tom Hardy assured MTV that Inception is “an ensemble piece” when asked how much screen-time he shared with DiCaprio. ”But a lot of the onus of the movie falls on Leo’s face,” Hardy continued. “He’s the superstar in the film.” Given the promising cast, word that the film will have an ensemble feel is very exciting. The Dark Knight was basically Christopher Nolan’s first attempt at an ensemble film. Although done at the cost of Batman/Bruce Wayne’s prominence in the film, the ensemble approach created a deeper feel for Gotham and the supporting characters.

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Inception is filled with rising stars who have seen 2009 as their breakthrough years. Marion Cotillard starred with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in Public Enemies and will be singing with Daniel Day-Lewis in Nine, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred in the indie hit (500) Days of Summer and had a small part as the villain in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. But it is Tom Hardy, who received critical praise for his performance in this year’s Bronson, that may finally see Inception as his big ticket to stardom.
After small parts in films like Black Hawk Down, Layer Cake, and Rocknrolla, Bronson provided Hardy the role he needed to get noticed in Hollywood. Opening in October 2008 at the London Film Festival and playing January 19, 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival, Bronson showcased the range and talent Tom Hardy has by putting him in the lead role as prisoner Charles Bronson. After getting cast in Nolan’s Inception, Hardy also got the lead in Fury Road, the new Mad Max film.
I didn’t expect to get Mad Max. I really didn’t. I didn’t ever expect to get the lead in a Hollywood movie, for Chris Nolan off the bat to offer me [Inception] without an audition and then to go sit with [director] George Miller [on Fury Road] and work with him and not really audition in the orthodox way of auditioning — this year’s been crazy. I’ve been working as an actor for a long time now, and I’ve been waiting for an independent film to come along because it was very hard to get cast as a character actor, as a lead — being credible but bankable. It’s very hard to break in when there are plenty of people who can be cast, who can green-light, who can put bums in the seats. So this whole year has been staggering.

A new batch of images from the various filming locations of Inception have hit the net recently. From over the weekend we have a set of photos featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and his on-screen wife, Marion Cotillard, talking to each other while hanging halfway out of apartment windows in downtown Los Angeles. And from earlier today we have shots of Leonardo Dicaprio, Ellen Page, and Tom Hardy (*UPDATE* and Ken Watanabe) and from their newest filming location; Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Until earlier this week, we’ve been completely lost in the dark when it comes to details concerning Christopher Nolan’s Inception. While we are still, very much, lost in the dark, we are starting to see the first rays of light transverse the horizon.
Inception has been filming in Paris all this week and we’ve been hit with a tidal wave of photos. One image, in particular, is a shot of a Call Sheet for the cast. Bonus: it lists character names. Ellen Page is Ariadne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Arthur, Tom Hardy is Eames, Ken Watanabe is Saito, Dileep Rao is Yusef, Cillian Murphy is Fischer, Tom Berenger is Browning. Leo DiCaprio’s name is missing from the list, but we’re assuming that the name Cobb refers to him. The name Cobb is listed in the first cast slot and character slot.
