The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan’s grand-scale conclusion to his Batman trilogy, just recently passed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide Box-office. According to the website BoxOfficeMojo.com, the film has grossed $1,011,514,754 — which is about $8 million past The Dark Knight‘s worldwide total. This marks Christopher Nolan’s second film to pass the billion dollar mark, and only the 13th film ever to do so.
Domestically, the film hasn’t been as big of an achievement — for a number of reasons. The current domestic gross sits at just over $433M, which is about $100M shy of its predecessor’s total. However, when it comes to IMAX theaters, The Dark Knight Rises has been a great success. It just passed the $100M milestone across 557 IMAX theaters worldwide. The only other film ever to do so was James Cameron’s Avatar.
The Dark Knight Rises is currently the 2nd highest grossing film of 2012, and 9th of all time — domestically. If you look to the right on our website, in the sidebar, that’s where we’ll be posting the current Box-office total in real-time. We suspect it isn’t done rising yet.
