tdkr nyc banner Production Update #12: Welcome To The Big Apple

For the past two months now, The Dark Knight Rises has been filming in the greater Los Angeles area with a fair amount of public attention. Our last production update covered many of the mostly spoiler-free highlights from those locations. But now production on The Dark Knight Rises bucks its trend of moving westward, and in turn starts up on the East Coast of the USA in New York City. As usual, filming of next year’s most anticipated movie is getting a lot of public attention. It’s only the first day of filming in the big apple and photos are popping up all over the net. Splash News, Superhero Hype, and Celebuzz have posted what we deem to be spoiler-free pictures that include: Gotham Cable News trucks on the streets, Bruce Wayne’s Lamborghini, Trump Tower doubling as the Wayne Enterprises building, and Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in action filming. Check out the gallery below to see the latest pictures from the first day of filming in New York City. Read the rest of this entry »

Confirmed: Rises Prologue Attached to M:I in Real IMAX Only

real imax tdkr Confirmed: Rises Prologue Attached to M:I in Real IMAX Only

Last week, we learned that we may get a prologue for The Dark Knight Rises in front of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, set for release on December 16th. We broke this story as a “rumor” because we had very little evidence coupled with the feeling that a prologue preview, much like The Dark Knight’s in front of I Am Legend, seemed all too plausible.

Today, AMC Theaters announced that a Rises prologue will only be played in front of Mission: Impossible at real-deal, 70mm film IMAX theaters. You won’t be able to catch this at your local LIEMAX (Digital IMAX) theater. To dive deeper into the IMAX vs. LIEMAX debate, check out this, this, and this. We also discussed IMAX vs. LIEMAX on the very first episode of the Nolan Fans Podcast.

LF Examiner has a complete database of large format theaters in the United States. Theater multiplexes labeled 1570 in the format column will, most definitely, be showing a prologue of Rises in front of Mission: Impossible on December 16th. LF Examiner also has an equally as awesome international database, but we’re unsure if the prologue will be played outside of the United States at this point.

I know this must anger a few fans. After a look at LF Examiner’s theater list, there are only about 34 film format IMAX theaters in the United States that might be showing the prologue. It makes sense that Team Nolan would want to present the first moments of Rises in the way that it’s intended to be viewed, on 70mm IMAX film, and on the biggest screens available. It’s an interesting blow to Digital IMAX screens. What are your thoughts?

Rumors The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Attached to Ghost Protocol?

tdkr imax prologue The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Attached to Ghost Protocol?

On Monday, a user posted a rumor on our forums claiming that a prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will be attached to IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol when it opens on December 16th. Claiming he heard it from ‘someone’ and that he wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be kept ‘secret’ or not, his rumor post wasn’t taken very seriously by many of the forum members. Well just today, /Film posted an exclusive article saying an exhibitor told them that Warner Bros. plans to attach a six-minute prologue to Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible film, which, like The Dark Knight Rises, contains select scenes shot on IMAX cameras.

In 2007, a six-minute prologue to The Dark Knight was attached to I Am Legend. I was lucky enough to catch one of those screenings of the prologue, and to this day it remains one of my favorite experiences in a movie theater ever. It forever converted me to fan of IMAX. And now it appears that both Warner Bros. and Paramount are looking to capture more audience goers. Pairing the two films together could be beneficial to both studios. Paramount’s Ghost Protocol stands to be the biggest IMAX release of the season and shares a similar demographic to The Dark Knight Rises. While Warner Bros’ batman film is poised to be the biggest film of 2012 — if not the decade. If our forum user and the /Film source are correct, this is easily some of the most exciting news in quite a while. What do you think? Will you go to see Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in IMAX this Decemeber to catch a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises?
