Of course, we later find out that he intentionally allows Cobb & his team to mess with his subconcious for an "audition."
I am surprised there is very few discussion on this particular reaction shot which gives the final scene of Cobb waking up in the airplane an ambiguous note. Arthur is shaking his head: "This guy just had the trip of his life, lol!!" Ariadne is gazing: "Were it not for his silly 'pining for dead wife' thing, he could have been a fantastic lay ."
