Wait Nolan said they did 6K DIs for the 65mm portions? It was mastered in 4K though, I know that much. 2 and 4K aren't as vast in difference as 65mm negative to 4K. DR and Color Space is a lot difference from film to digi.

I'm not quite sure what your trying to say. Pfister said that the 35mm scenes were scanned at 4k and the 65mm was scanned at 6k for distribution, if that's what your asking.

American Cinematographer and IMDB both have the film as distributed with a 4K master. No digital projection system in the states is 6K anyway so it would be pointless. Even digital IMAX is using a series of 4K projectors.

...IMAX is not a replacement/alternative for 3D people...

They are two totally independent thing IMAX can do 3D. So even if IMAX takes over the world, it doesn't mean 3D disappears.

EXACTLY. Why do people feel as though the two formats are competitors? It doesn't make sense, especially since half the time the two are one and the same.

I will say that having 3D in Avatar certainly improved it. It's not an inherently bad technology, just gravely misused these days.

To me, 3D seems like a gimmick; a cheep novelty, and one that I'm not really fond of. I'm proud of Nolan for avoiding it. Granted, I've never seen a good use of 3D in film (I missed out on the Avatar experience, sadly), but I just really hate how many films come out now that expect to make so much more money based on the fact that it's 3D, and not giving a rip if the movie itself actually sucks. A good movie is good if it has a good script, concept and director... not if they spent millions on special effects or 3D vision! Come on, Hollywood.

He's against 3D to my knowledge, which I am totally in favour of. I don't despise 3D, but I also don't see the point in it. It's just a marketing tool to cash on more money. I much prefer IMAX as standard anyway.
