Anyone know a good camera for a beginner under $300?

Under $300? Damn that's gonna be hard. I highly recommend saving up for a T2i or T3i. DSLR Video is the way to go these days, but then you have to worry about lenses....

Well I'm a "film noob" so do I really need to use the high-tech $500+ DSLRs yet?

Well I'm a "film noob" so do I really need to use the high-tech $500+ DSLRs yet?

My first camera buy was a T3i and I have gotten so much better with it. You just gotta keep filming. It is a buy that won't disappoint because you can't get better video quality unless you have a Red.....

Lenses are HUUUUUUUGE! The lens to a filmmaker are like words to an author. The lens is one of the languages we as filmmakers use to speak to audiences. It's the bridge that connects story to visuals.

Lens are expensive, but if you do some good looking ( Amazon is a great choice) they don't have to kill your pocketbook. You can get some good lens' for under $100 and some solid ones for $100+

Why they are pricey? Lens' comprises of many intricate parts that have to be hand made. Some of these parts are quite pricey, and thus-the craft of the lens makes up in retail price. Like I said before, if you look good enough you can find some solid lenses for a great price.

Now back to my first point on the lens being the 'language' for us filmmakers> for me the inception is STORY. Once you realize what story you want to tell, then you figure out how you can tell this story. How you want to compose your shots to express the story, and this is where the lens comes into play. What perspective are you going for? Do you want to shoot a scene with a wide-angle to get across a large scope feeling? Do you want to use a macro-lens to express a more intimate sense? Etc. The lens and choosing which ones to use for a scene allows you to craft your story and explain the mood and feeling through visuals. It's an incredible art. There's no one RIGHT WAY..and the beauty of this all is that it comes down to you as a special filmmaker and freedom to uniquely approach the story the way you want.

Example: Lets pretend you're in a courtroom. We have the witnesses. Each witnesses tells the same general story, but each member's version is slightly different. Nonetheless, A+B = C, but each witness has a different way of explaining that final expression. Lenses are kinda like the witnesses giving testimony in a courtroom. (let me know if that doesn't make sense lol)

No, that is the T3..you want the T3i..or the Canon 600D.

Again, not the T3, but the 600D/T3i-I almost made the same mistake and got the T3 instead of trying to get the T3i.
