The only person I can think of right now is Benedict Cumberbatch. Spectacular actor, just finished A Study in Pink.
Not totally on the Michael Fassbender bandwagon. I have only seen Inglorious Basterds, Xmen, and Prometheus, the latter two are probably not the best examples of his acting.
Brad Pitt and Will Smith were both considered for Cobb in Inception. Will Smith is underused in emotional roles. Yeah, he's fun in stuff like MIB and Hitch, but he really gets to me emotionally in films like Ali and Pursuit of Happyness.
Possibly George Clooney or Mark Whalberg. Sean Penn. Michael Sheen and Frank Langella were both very good in Frost/Nixon. James Franco can add some surprising depth as a funny man or tortured soul.
