I am also glad he isn't in this, but I by no means find him mediocre. His performances in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, This Boy's Life and really Blood Diamond make him above mediocre for me.

Yeah, Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of his early work as much as the next person. His more recent material not so much. I mean less face it, he made a hell of a junkie in ( ??????can't remember ) but it was a good role.

I don't think DiCaprio would have been a good choice for the Riddler. Not that he is a bad actor, he is in fact one of my favorites but I just don't think the role fits him.

You are aware that Howard Hughes is very similar to The Riddler right?

DiCaprio is one of those actors that has grown on me in the last few years. I remember when he first came out and he was all over the place with Titanic. I liked him in Titanic, but he didnt blow me away. I didnt really start 'noticing' him until I saw What's Eating Gilbert Grape and I realized that there was some depth there:-) Loved him in The Departed and Shutter Island. One thing Ive noticed about DiCaprio is that he has a knack for portraying accents, his accent in Blood Diamond was great:-) I really think he has grown as an actor and I like him:-) I also love the Africa scene in Inception, I think him and Hardy had a cool exchange and it was interesting watching them both. Hardy was so alive in that scene and portrayed it with so much nonverbal communication and movement as well as dialogue, and DiCaprio just fed off of it, it was great:-) I have yet to see him play a true, evil, villainous man, which is why Im excited to see him Tarantino's new movie Django Unchained:-) Im glad, though, that I get to see him play a villain in a Tarantino movie versus playing The Riddler. Not that I don't think he would do a good job as The Riddler, Im just glad that Nolan went with his gut and did Bane, although I think the Riddler is interesting, I think there is so much similarity and depth between Batman and Bane and I think that Bane is the perfect villain to go head to head with Batman in the final movie:-)

I never saw Blood Diamond but his work in The Departed, like the rest of the film, was Oscar worthy. Beyond great acting on his part, his accent is literally perfect. It was only subtly Bostonian, so I wasn't sitting there every second being drawn in by the accent. Frequently, this is how people with accents actually sound. 90% plain, midwestern accent with 10% of their region's accent.

That's not really "very similar"...

Take anyone with OCD and you'll say they're very similar with Riddler? Riddler was much more than a guy with OCD.

Has The Riddler ever been done justice in any form on screen? I'm just curious of people's opinions on the subject. If not he'd be good contender for the first villain in the eventual reboot of the series (not that I even want to think about that). Also Leo is a fine actor and I have no doubt he could pull off The Riddler in a unique way but he wouldn't be my first dream choice for the role. Back before Bane/Catwoman were announced and everyone thought it'd be Riddler for sure, I wanted Guy Pierce. The only thing that should be similar between Riddler and Joker is their complex head scratcher punchline/answer related crimes. I think if you made Riddler a posh kinda guy with something strange about him or give him an obsessed nature you could do it different enough from Joker.
