I don't know how Nolan would use them (that's for him to decide), but 3 composers who have had a huge effect on me via films are John Ottman (who scored a TON of superhero films and The Usual Suspects, which is one of my fav movies of all time; seen it over 80 times)

Carter Burwell who is the Hanz Zimmer of The Coen Bros.

And Yaan Tiersen

All are very evocative and emotional. Ill post 2 examples of the latter two. Zimmer is God, but if Nolan ever did another moody, tragic, slow piece....

And Yaan is phenomenal. Very emotional, one of many great examples

Then again, Nolan and Pfister and Zimmer are all walking in step with each other, each increasing their game as the other 2 do.

Clint Mansell is a good call. The Black Swan OST is fantastic.

I wouldn't complain if he decides to work exclusively with Zimmer from now on, as Zimmer is my absolute favorite.

Have you listened to the soundtrack for The Fountain or Moon?

You have to listen to the scores I suggested. It is an eargasm to behold.
