I personally do describe myself as an atheist. I've pretty much been one my whole life, but only in the last few years did I start using the term. My mom's side of the family is Catholic, my dad's side is Christian Baptist, and my dad himself is a Buddhist. I don't spent a lot of time with my mom's side so I don't know too much about Catholicism, and when to Baptist churches for a few years in my teenage years, however, looking back, I think it was because 1. It was the only time I really got to see family on my dad's side, and 2. There was this girl I had a big crush on, I asked her out, she said no, and than there was some controversy around her father so we both basically left.
I'm very open minded and have gone to church willing in the last few years, but I do feel like some people in my family aren't sure what to make of my atheism. I think they probably feel like its a phase or something and I'll see the light. My biggest thing now about being an outspoken atheist is seeing misunderstanding of many things, like how people believe atheists and satanists are the same, Micro vs Macro Evolution, Scientific Theory vs Theory, and why a Scientific Theory can not become a law, etc.
Anyway, I'm a Nolanite, and new to the site but can't promise I'll post all the time, but I will whenever I can.
