“There’s a lot of discussion at the beginning of the film about government laws and people paying taxes,” Pearce says of the film, slated to open in the fall. “It’s that particular period where you’re beginning to get the crossover of the western and the gangster movie. The world of people doing what they do, living out in the forests, the hills — what in Australia we would call the bush. But then the people in the city are trying to grasp control, and it’s all in that period of the two worlds colliding. And there are a couple of beautiful love stories in there as well.”
