I believe that Christian Bale isn't an asshole, but he sure comes across as a borderline-asshole quite a few times in videos I've seen of him. There are some people out there that won't get him and may think he's inconsiderate of their feelings...If I were an actor I wouldn't say shit like "why do you want my autograph, why do you want so much from me, I'm just an actor"...people may not be as enlightened in philosophy, or awareness but damn I'd respect people's feelings and not say shit like that. I'd be like "thank you...appreciate it. have a good day," and move on. I'm sure he doesn't act like a "semi asshole" alot, I know he's a good guy.
It comes with the job. It's when people stop asking for your autograph which is the time to worry.
