Yeah. I wanted several variations but I wanted each to be somehow related to something from the movie. The idea came from the moment on the audio commentary where Chris says how someone has pointed out that it looks like Lenny's mind is leaking out (in the shot where Lenny lies on the floor with his blood pouring out after having his head smashed into the mirror and breaking it). So I thought if the blood is his mind why not smash it into pieces just like his life was after shattering that mirror with his head.
