Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse (2012)

Post Dodd December 1, 2011, 2:01 pm

The title is now 'The Apocalypse'

Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel’s upcoming short film-gone-feature will now include actors Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. So what’s the catch? Well, it turns out these guys will all be playing themselves. According to MTV, Seth Rogen explained the film as being a “pretty offensive vision of the apocalypse… And I want a lot of dead celebrity cameos. Because L.A. is full of famous people, I’d like all of the cameos to be them as corpses.”

Seth and Jay Vs. The Apocalypseis a comedy about Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel, who are ready to kill each other after being stuck together for too long while the world unravels around them and monsters invade earth. Rogen also put to rest the rumor that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe would be involved, saying that he wasn’t “willing to push things as far as we [are].

Celebrity corpse cameos

This has to be one of the most unique films I have every heard of. Can't wait to see James Franco play himself. I wonder if there will be a lot of weed smoking. :-D

Sony Pictures is getting into the Seth Rogen business. The Seth Rogen directing business to be exact. The studio is in talks to finance and distribute Rogen’s end-of-the-world comedy The Apocalypse, which Rogen co-wrote the script with Evan Goldberg.

This time around, Rogen and Baruchel will be joined by James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. As Rogen puts it, “I literally play Seth Rogen in the movie and Jay Baruchel literally plays himself in the movie and others — Jonah Hill, James Franco — they’re literally playing themselves in the movie.”

They’ll be stuck in Franco’s apartment complaining about…the apocalypse.

Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse (2012)

Hoping to hop on the apocalyptic bandwagon that will surely never get annoying in 2012, Sony Pictures has entered into negotiations to finance and distribute The Apocalypse, an end of days comedy marking the directorial debut of Seth Rogen. Written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg from a story by Jason Stone, the pic was inspired by a short film called Jay and Seth vs The Apocalypse. In it, Rogen and Jay Baruchel play their real life selves while they ride out the end of the world in their apartment. Since two movie stars cooped up during Armageddon clearly isn’t enough, the project has expanded to include James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson now residing in Franco’s (presumably larger?) Los Angeles apartment. We previously reported that the pic would start shooting in February, but it looks as if that will be pushed back until spring. Hit the jump for more on The Apocalypse.

HeatVision reported on Sony’s interest in the project, which Rogen and company hope to further populate with star-studded cameos. A deal is expected to wrap soon with The Apocalypse budget coming in between an expected $30 to $40 million. Produced through Mandate, this will mark a reunion of sorts as Rogen and Goldberg teamed with the production company on awards contender, 50/50.

I'm happy there is finally some serious interest picking up. I hope Franco can work on this film seeing as he is a really busy guy
