Come on. IMAX Corp would never say that. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot and admitting that D-IMAX is an inferior product, which they've spend the last 3 years trying to defend otherwise. 1. MI:GP is being released only to IMAX on 12/16, and opening wide on 12/21. Is this correct?

2. Is MI:GP opening on 12/16 only on "true" IMAX, or all IMAX?

3. The TDKR prologue will be shown only on 1570 IMAX screens from 12/16-12/20, but will be shown in front of MI:GP on all IMAX starting on 12/21. Is that correct?

I'm so confused.

Yes to your first question, all IMAX's to your second, and D-IMAX won't be getting it at all.

What's the major difference between the 1570 IMAX screens and the Digital IMAX screens? I'm not really what is defined as a "real IMAX screen," but I always assumed the real ones were the much larger screens. Forgive me for not knowing exactly the dimensions, but about 30 min from where I live there is a huge IMAX screen that is like 50 feet tall or something, and I always assumed it was the "real one," yet this same screen is not 1570, it is apparently digital because it is not showing the prologue. Furthermore, according to one of the lists of IMAX screens, there is another IMAX screen about 3 hours from me that is 1570. Whew...this shit is exhausting.

15/65mm is a film format. It measures from 8-12K (thousand) lines of resolution, with an aspect ratio of 1.44:1. Traditionally, 15/65mm screens are 6-12 stories tall. Digital theaters use dual 1.85:1 projectors, having a resolution of 2K. Most digital theaters are retrofit, meaning they were formally regular theaters but were "transformed" in IMAX theaters. They have the same sound system as the 15/65mm theaters, but the screens are typically 3-4 stories tall, and the projectors have a significantly smaller resolution and aren't capable of the IMAX aspect ratio. More and more traditional IMAX's are however replacing their film projectors with digital one's, because it's much cheaper.

I'd be cool if someone would compile the screen sizes of all of the D-IMAX's screens.

The 1570 screen at Pointe Orlando is something around 70x85. Compared to the 3 digital screens in town, which are probably closer to 25x40. Watching DMR films on the digital screens is just fine, preferable usually. I dislike that they want to charge me the same amount as Pointe Orlando, but whatever, the sound is pretty on point so I'll take it. But I don't think there is any comparison to seeing a true IMAX film on a big screen vs the digital theaters.

I'm curious as to the new laser projection IMAX is cooking up with Kodak though.
