Hard cuts

It would be fascinating to see the cut footage in the film, as a sort of alternative cut. Thus far the only access the public has had to this is the few lines or bits of action in the script, the picture of the Joker from the escape from the penthouse scene that was released during the viral marketing games and the footage of the Joker in the bus from the Blu-Ray special features.

Being present for filming, I've seen most of what was cut (though I won't comment out of respect for Chris Nolan and co). I can see why it was cut. The theatrical cut should remain the definitive version. And it most likely will since he has a very specific stipulation in his contracts that the studio is not allowed to make extended cuts for DVD release. Any extra footage is kept solely in his posession. He also believes that having deleted scenes and bloopers on DVD's take away from the creative process, which is fair, so sadly those things will never see the light of day.

The trailer from Wizard World had a bunch of extra moments. Batman running on top of police cars after exiting the interrogation room and Bruce toasting with Dent being the more obvious exclusions from the final cut.

But the thing with the toast scene with Dent and Wayne, I think it was one of many different versions of reactions between the two characters filmed, just for that one scene.
I noticed this when in the scene when The Joker is telling the mob he wants half the money. The mob laugh, but when it quickly cuts to Maroni no one is laughing anymore from what we see, but you can hear them laughing.
So there is a small slip with he system he uses there.
That’s why I like Nolan so much, because instead of focusing on camera angles or doing a shooting ratio of 100:1 like Kubrick; he's more interested in getting the "perfect" performance from the actors and for the film.
This is what I would do if I was a filmmaker; try as many options with the actors.

I believe Nolan filmed many things mainly for promotional footage usage (e.g. Batman jumping on police cars and the Batmobile driving in Batman's headquarters). Otherwise, there were numerous angles and takes on the same scene (e.g. Batman kicking The Joker at the end of the interrogation scene).

I don't think he films part for promotion tbh, they tend to hire a cameraman and they tend to take promotinal stills for the movie. I think Nolan films what he's gonna use in the film potentially.

I guess we'll never really know how much pressure WB is putting on him for certain things.

Yeah he was asked by WB to remove the scene in The Dark Knight where The Joker is in a body bag, because of Ledgers death clearly.
But Nolan, having a final cut clause possibly, declined the idea of removing it which was the right decision in my view.

WB never asked him to remove that scene from the film, though he does get final say the final cut.

Those shots were not filmed for promotional sake. The only time Nolan has done this was the voiceover for the Batman Begins teaser. A lot of the time alternate angles and shots are used since multiples are sometimes shot.
