Do you think Heath's performance is the best of all time?

The 2008 mega success about Batman's attempts to defeat a criminal mastermind known only as the Joker.

Do you think Heath's performance is the best of all time?

I think Heath did a great job of walking that line though. the thing i love about the role is that it seemed so far out of his comfort zone and he nailed it.

why was it out of his comfort zone? i think he was very comfortable and confident about playing that role, that's why he took to it so well

Because up until that point, what role had he done that would have suggested he would have been SO fantastic? The potential to fail was the gamble. Imagine the fallout if he hadn't nailed the role?

Not to mention he didn't even want the role at first. He said over and over that he had no real passion for comics and was afraid of the role at first

I for one hate The Joker. Not from an objective point of view i.e. how well written he was, how good the performance was, but every second I spend seeing him on screen I think 'God, I hate this person'. Even more, I hate those stupid teens who pretend they empathise with The Joker because they're outcasts who hate humanity. Freaks, frankly. I'd much rather hang out with Bruce Wayne.

lol i wouldn't go so far as to say i hate him, but i see where you're coming from. Its like with any cult following, there is always going to be the stupid kids who take it too far. That being said, i feel like there are actaul redeeming qualities in the character, although buried lol. He does have an intent to prove that curruption comes from control.

that's not true. Heath said he agreed to meet with Nolan as soon as he got the offer because he immediately knew how to play the role

you're being a hipster again. You basically said you don't like the joker because of how loved he is by the masses.

I may have my facts wrong, but I thought he was? Either way, he had other roles that he turned down for the same reason i.e. Spiderman

Almost every interview i read, he has said over and over that he was unsure of doing blockbuster roles for a bevy of reasons. One being that he wasn't sure of his own ability and felt he would be destroyed by the media and the other being that he didn't want to be misinterpreted as a teen heart throb.

I read an interesting biography that suggested he intentionally took roles, towards the middle of his carreer, to strip his Ten Things I Hate About You perception. It implied that he took roles that he new wouldn't be successful to destroy his image, so that he could build it back up.

And Nolan's reason for hiring Heath?

"Because he is fearless"

Nuff said.

And Heath did not "instantly" know how to play The Joker. What he did was to shut himself in for a month, watching Clockwork Orange and reading The Killing Joke and listened to Sex Pistols. And when he came back he scared everyone 8-)
There's a good chance you wont like me. But an even better chance I wont care
