It's in that kind of sad Superman 4/Pirates 5 bracket where clearly nobody wants to be there and they're so fucking tired and it has no scope or visual concept or anything to recommend it. It's not Origins: Wolverine-level embarrassment but it lacks any sort of hook or sensible construction or imagination.

For all Singer's faults, even for his worst X-Men film there's at least some sort of concept at play which ties into the idea of persecution and marginalisation and what that drives people to do, and that's really been the lynchpin of this franchise. Kinberg on the other hand very clumsily just tries to tell an extremely basic story and can't quite do it.

Zimmer is the only one who can hold his head up really.

Well damn, thanks for having seen it.

I mean, they had a pretty good cast and the Dark Phoenix story imo still is one of the best X-Men stories it's just such a pity it never really comes to fruition on film... Where'd you rank it amongst the other X-Men films?

In my opinion, it's only ranked above Apocalypse, Last Stand and The Wolverine.

There's a concept there, but Apocalypse's charge into cacophonic action is more offensive than Dark Phoenix on the whole.

Shit, I'd really like to see Marvel adapting the Dark Pheonix saga themselves 10 years down the road. Third time's the charm.
