17 months from release, and still a complete mystery. Isn’t that almost unheard of for movies of this size?
Yep.

Makes me think this is a smaller film, actually. Something the size of The Prestige.
A "smaller" event film...

I think we've established on here that event films don't require a huge budget.

Or simply that the most secretive director in Hollywood is keeping his next project under wraps. Just a theory...

Edit: Prologue?

That's like saying a smaller large film. An event film means it's a large film. 17 months from release is over a year from release. We usually don't hear anything about his movies until at 1 year before. This summer we will know a lot including having a teaser.

Don’t know how you came to conclusion that it’ll be a smaller film. It has a summer release (it has to be big enough to compete with CBMs and IPs that are coming out at the same time). Plus, IMAX...

He shot Dunkirk summer 2016 and we got the film summer 2017!
So I’m expecting a similar timeline.

A shoot during the summer and we’ll know more about the film by then (May-July).
Possibly a teaser in August/September
First trailer December/January
Maybe a prologue with Star Wars.

It’s crazy that he finishes his films on time and doesn’t go overbudet.

Now that you mention it, that's almost certainly a lock. And the teaser with the Joker in October...

Man, I keep forgetting how close Joker is getting. It seems like studios don't market their movies super far in advance like they used to.
