Decent sized film festival in my town in two weeks. Kinda disappointed in the lineup (no Suspiria, Buster Scruggs, Roma or Sisters Brothers), but I'm super happy that I'll get to see First Reformed and The House That Jack Built.

CIFF is middle of October, in which case the only point is for Nov/Dec releases. Full schedule is announced next week ish but we're for sure getting Widows, Shoplifters, Cold War. Hoping for Roma.

Chazelle introduced La La Land in 2016 which was cool.'

Colman will compete for Best Actress, Weisz and Stone go for Supporting

I think Colman and Lady Gaga are sure of Oscar nominations in Best Actress. I think Glenn Close might be able to get a nomination too. Regina King is said to be amazing in If Beale Street Could Talk, which could get her a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

As the link says, there are still some promising performances to be seen.

crazy year, race is even more wide open in some ways than last year and last year's was already unusually wide

It's good. But much like Ida, it's great visually but the story suffers. Their love story is pretty unremarkable. The ending does punch a gruesome poetic punch, though.
