Several ideas.... need support

Post Kyuubi no Kaiju February 21, 2011, 9:22 pm

So, as a young adult of 15, I have a huge dream to be a filmmaker, as do many. I am simply going to post my ideas I have on this post, just so people can get a taste of what I have in my head. Influences are (most completely) Christopher Nolan, then Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott and M. Night Shyamalan. Almost all of my films are psychological in nature, and I try to tackle different themes with that psychological twist. So, without further ado, here are my ideas:

Reaper - A psycho-fantasy horror set in (for the most part) in a neighborhood. I was inspired more by M. Night Shyamalan than anything else, mostly his earlier films like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs.
The plot: A troubled man experiences sinister hauntings that don't seem to be from ghosts in his home as he attempts to discover who he really is. The truth, however, is much larger than he would have ever thought.
Notes: The film features a lot of Christian themes throughout.
Rated R

Incognito - psychological thriller/drama with influence mostly from Memento.
The plot: A psychologically disturbed criminal attempts to discover the truth about his incarceration in a prison for the criminally insane, while evading the staff who are so keen in keeping him outside the prison walls.
Notes: You'll REALLY see the Christian messages and themes in this one. I really want to play with your mind on this one....

The Interdimensionals - psychological science fiction action/thriller influenced by Inception and Minority Report
A team of Crossers (humans who have the ability to cross through wormholes without being torn to shreds) attempt to discover a planet called Morpheus in another dimension for a ruthless organization. What they find will change their lives, and their very minds, forever.
Notes: Psychological yes, and it does feature a sort of alien species. I'll only give a minor detail: they have technology to "re-calibrate" one's brain function, meaning they can do whatever the hell they want to you, from removing brain cells at will to giving you a mental disorder like schizophrenia.

Full Moon Syndrome - Plot: a psychological yet epic take on what it means to be a werewolf. It will be split in two-parts, each around two hours and thirty minutes long. I will not give details, really. However, I'm debating whether I want this to be a novel rather than a movie. I will see.

Reaper: That sounds like a solid plot. I've never really heard a plot like it, similar films yes, but I think the idea is really unique and satisfying. It could work if written and made well, lovely idea!

Incognito: Films set in prisons are not easy to come by. Sounds like a Shutter Island / Memento cross over, which isn't a bad thing. Nice work, I bet they'd be lots of twists and turns throughout the story.

The Interdimensionals: Not as good as the others. Done before in films like Avatar (a little different but you get my drift). I think it's pretty recycled, and the ideas are not that fresh, but using elements like Physiological states and plot twists, could work out well.

Full Moon Syndrome: Sounds interesting, yet similar. Would be nice as a book, but more unoriginal as a film.

Your clearly a clever thinker, love your ideas and plot break downs. Hope my views influenced your views too, nice going though.

You've got potential. Pick your favorite from these 4, save what you've got on the other 3 somewhere and start focussing on the one.
Sure as hell can't hold down a job. Not too many professions out there that value forgetfulness. Prostitution, maybe. Politics, of course.

To Mason01: Thanks, I truly appreciate your feedback.
With Reaper, the genre is a mix of both horror and fantasy, along with the psychological twists to make it a bit more realistic. It really delves into the themes of faith and fear.

With Incognito, trust me, this story is gonna be like "what the....!" in the end. It's a very personal idea to me, really follows what I believe in. Very Christian....

With The Interdimensionals, oh yeah, it's got twists, some so disturbing that even I had to crop it out of the story.\

To Erik: GREATLY appreciated! I'm actually going to do Reaper first, since it's more of an "at home" made film. I'm also going to write and direct a psychological horror short later this year (hopefully) titled "Macabre". It's kind of a psychological take on a type of "fictionalized exorcism" that I created.

Cool. I say focus on one idea, write it the best you can and make it your masterpiece. It'll be great! Then present it to us afterwards, :D

Solid ideas, love 'em. Incognito has to be my favorite though because institutes for the mentally insane could have such a chilling atmosphere.

To Avenuewriter: I'm pretty sure Incognito will (hopefully) blow people away with its conclusion.

I like your style ;) Hollywood needs better psychological thriller writers.

About your idea for The Interdimensionals; you should see Dark City. It seams to have some similarities and it could probably serve as a good inspiration. Good ideas! Need a writer? :D
