Do you think this movie will be the first movie in eight years for Nolan to earn a billion? After TDKR, his last two movies have grossed less and less. I hope this is not a precedent for something. The less money Nolan's films will keep making, the less investments they will get from the studio. Studio may love and respect Nolan, but if it doesn't earn money, it doesn't earn money. While Nolan is one of the main reasons why people nowadays go and see his films, he's not a brand name like Marvel Studios, who, even when they put out the most disposable, mediocre efforts, can still guarantee commercial success for themselves because of their brand. This movie needs to be something truly special, but also accessible to the Average Joes. Dunkirk was definitely not made for everyone to enjoy. Hence, it's the lowest-grossing Nolan film since Prestige.

Doubtful. Will almost certainly make more money than Dunkirk though.
Dunkirk was made for considerably less than his previous blockbusters and turned a large profit because of it.Batman's Batman wrote: ↑March 21st, 2019, 7:57 pmDo you think this movie will be the first movie in eight years for Nolan to earn a billion? It's was to been made for 100 or 150 million dollars. Not counting the marketing costs. With box office of roughly 500 mill and some change, that is not that impressive and profitable. Yes, it's big money for a war movie, but that war movie was PG-13 and was advertised as a summer blockbuster.Dunkirk was made for considerably less than his previous blockbusters and turned a large profit because of it.
It was made for 90-100 million dollars. A movie that grosses 5.25 times its production budget is going to turn a sizable profit. It doesn't matter what it was "advertised as," the math is the math and a dollar is a dollar.Batman's Batman wrote: ↑March 21st, 2019, 8:49 pmIt's was to been made for 100 or 150 million dollars. @cilogy where's that gif?
It doesn't have to make a billion. It's an original movie so it's very unlikely it would be able to do so. However, it would be better for Nolan if this makes more than Dunkirk. First of all, studios don't like seeing a downward trend. Second of all, a "big action blockbuster" is more than likely going to cost a lot of money so earning less than 500 million would basically make the movie break even and not that much more.
It would be good if this makes around Interstellar amount of money. 700 million sounds like a good number. Of course considering the movie is good and a crowd pleaser the same way Inception and Interstellar were.

No, because it won't have Batman in it.Batman's Batman wrote: ↑March 21st, 2019, 7:57 pmDo you think this movie will be the first movie in eight years for Nolan to earn a billion?
