Indeed. I think they want to try something new.gropercity wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 11:32 amThis whole thing is strange. They're either being super secretive with things or this will not be marketed in the traditional way.Nomis wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 11:27 amWell, there still is no trailer classification for a second trailer...
But there is for the prologue. Why would they wait so long with the trailer's classification?
Nolan has always said that the best way to go into films is without having seen trailers/anything at all. Maybe he's now become powerful enough to persuade WB to keep as much footage close to the vest.
TENET - General Information
That would be fine a small or mid-budget project. If the reports are true, then it’s his most expensive picture to date. We’re talking about millions of dollars here. They must take advantage of all channels.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but a trailer can be classified on the same day for the US and it doesn’t even have to be classified to drop online. So, on the 19th, they could send the prologue to IMAX theaters and the trailer to non-IMAX theaters and drop the trailer online. Then start the classification process abroad.

Nolan has generated billions. This is not some run of the mill summer movie. Nolan has a desire to be secretive. Now that he's such a big name the studios are probably giving him more control of the marketing.AhmadAli95 wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 11:42 amThat would be fine a small or mid-budget project. People believed that about Dunkirk - him having carte blanche and complete control which is true to some extent. He’s in control, he probably has final cut, but without a doubt it was a risky project, he and Emma talked about that aspect of it.
This is no different. The risk is even higher now. The studio gave him the budget he wanted in promise of the film being profitable. We’ve seen examples of big studio films where they didn’t go all out with the marketing and ended up being box office failures. From a mere business point of view, it wouldn’t be wise to keep the marketing “cinema only” which I’m sure it won’t be. Otherwise, why bother with a website and social media accounts at all? Those things aren’t free.
Beside the teaser not being online, I don’t think he’s being too experimental here. We expected a prologue and we’re getting one despite how under wraps the project has been. And it’s 6:30mins - poolssibly his longest (if it doesn’t include a sizzle reel).

Yeah, no. Doesn't work like that.gropercity wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 11:46 amNow that he's such a big name the studios are probably giving him more control of the marketing.
There will 100% be trailers and posters online. Difference is that he gets to decide most of what gets put into the trailers thanks to being his own producer and proving himself to be one of the most profitable directors in the industry. So the trailers can be as vague as he wants them to, more or less.
But there is just no way WB would greenlight a movie of this size without demanding it be properly marketed.
Exactly. WB spent a whopping $225 million on this movie. It’s just crazy if they don’t release a main trailer a half year (!) before the release...

They just released a teaser in a very limited fashion and didn't even put it online. You have no idea how anything works on this particular project.Sanchez wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 1:58 pmYeah, no. What are you on about? They did the same thing with Birds of Frey and they still put out a trailer online.
Yeah, but... do YOU have any idea? Both parties are just guessing at this point.gropercity wrote: ↑December 16th, 2019, 4:12 pmThey just released a teaser in a very limited fashion and didn't even put it online.
