Blaming it on bias towards his person alone I don't think is very accurate and frankly just silly. Even though we know that the Academy obviously have people they in general might like better and that because Nolan isn't the most charismatic type he might not be the personal favorite amongst all of them, there are other factors here as well. After all, the Academy consists of like 7k people.

But we know they like certain genres of film more than others, that they are more inclined to vote on movies that has come out more recent, and that there is a huge difference in the age of the average voter versus the age of the target group of (again most of) his films. The movies could simply not be speaking to them as clearly as they do to younger people.

I do find it completely ridiculous that he, despite his incredible filmography oif which most credits him for three things, hasn't won a single DGA, PGA, BAFTA, CC, GG or Oscar. Thankfully he has the one WGA win at least. It's sad. But don't say it doesn't happen simply because it's him.

It happens because of the movies Nolan makes. Because he want as many people on the planet to watch and enjoy his movies, he picks genres and themes that usually aren't favorites at the award shows. Again it's about age differences and genre bias more than anything. Nolan doesn't give a fuck about the awards, that is clear as a whistle when we look at the release date of Dunkirk. And frankly, we shouldn't care right now either. In 30 years, when everyone have forgotten everything about The King's Speech, I'm 100% certain at least a few of Nolan's films will be talked about and loved by a bunch of people.

They can't ignore him forever. He's gonna continue to make incredible movies for a long ass time, and one day he'll get the statues. Until then:

people hate me for my radical comments ... but lets face it.. Nolan wont win... even in the next decade he isn't goin to win..just becoz he is Nolan...
If in any parallel universe Nolan had directed The Shape of Water, or Birdman or Revenant... he would still loose the trophy to someone els !!

I mean... if Dunkirk was made in the same way by any other director other thn Nolan, he/she would have won everything from the critics circles to the oscar.

Yeah i deserve a ban (according to some) for expressing my intense discontent
I’ve never been a fan of these hypotheticals of “if so and so had made this, then this, this, and this would have happened.”

They don’t really make any sense because they’re different people with different backgrounds, skills and experiences, that would have made a completely different looking movie, if at all.

Why would del toro, Peele, Gerwig, Spielberg, even make a movie about the events at Dunkirk in the first place? They’re not British, and don’t have a personal connection to it.

I’m just saying the argument just kind of collapses onto itself.

Just enjoy the fact that Nolan, barring an egregious snub, is going to be nominated, and so is the film
:gonf:

Can't expect much going his way if/when he decides to make a Bond film, though. The Academy doesn't think very highly of that film franchise either. Just some fun spy flicks with a little bit of class, and very British lol.

I meant high society, but to each their own.

Your point though stands as one of the reasons the Academy does not respect Bond.
