I think Del Toro is going to win, and Three Billboards will take Best Picture. Basically just a repeat of the Golden Globes.nightfury93 wrote:So I could be wrong, but I think now the Best Director Oscar is down to a three horse race between Del Toro, Nolan, and McDonnaugh.
Seems Del Toro is frontrunner with Nolan right behind him, but McDonnaugh has the advantage that it looks like "Three Billboards" is the Best Picture frontrunner.
Anyone agree or disagree?
Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread
Dunkirk will win an oscar for sound and that’s it. That’s my prediction.

Theatrical Release
Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC for Blade Runner 2049
Bruno Delbonnel, ASC, AFC for Darkest Hour
Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NSC for Dunkirk
Dan Laustsen, DFF for The Shape of Water
Rachel Morrison, ASC for Mudbound
Its just awards. It's cool if he has recognition, but I would have preferred if he had gotten recognition over other films of his filmography than Dunkirk.
I'm just excited for whatever he is doing next.
I think his weight in the industry will probably make him a very big candidate for Best Director, and I think that award will be more tied to the person itself than the movie.

Right on cue everybody.
Nolan is very much in a position to win Best Director.
Critic's Choice, DGA and BAFTA will cement this sentiment.

Let's not forget Richard Linklater and "Boyhood" won the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and BAFTA for Director/Picture... but lost to Birdman at the Oscars (as well as the Guilds).

Personal opinion, if Nolan only wins the DGA and BAFTA prior to the Oscars, I think that would look very, VERY good for his chances.Willem wrote:2018 Critics’ Choice film predictions: Can Christopher Nolan hold off Guillermo Del Toro for Best Director?
