Ah yes of course. That was impressive. Honestly though, there were too many obvious green screen shots. However, as Jungle Book proved, having those in abundance doesn't mean you can't win Best VFX...
Anyway, I really don't see TLJ winning that award. It should be Dunkirk or Blade Runner 2049.

Good that most CBMs are out of the race. GotG2 doesn't deserve a nomination either though. I haven't seen Shape of Water yet but I can see the final list looking like this:
Blade Runner 2049
Dunkirk
Valerian
Last Jedi
Shape of Water
The “Dunkirk” inclusion raised eyebrows among some observers because it contains a notable excerpt from Edward Elgar’s “Nimrod,” but the executive committee reportedly felt that it wasn’t the same situation as last year’s “Arrival,” which was disqualified for the inclusion of another pre-existing classical piece. Max Richter, composer of that piece in “Arrival,” qualifies for consideration this year with his score for “Hostiles.”
Article doesn't explain why then Arrival didn't qualify, though.

Apes will definitely be nominated and most likely win.
