Amazing!! happy Hoyte van Hoytema got the cinematography nom

Was surprised that Dunkirk wasn't up for Outstanding British film, then I realized I missed this:
https://www.screendaily.com/features/ba ... 26.article
One Goliath surprisingly not in the running for outstanding British film in 2018 is Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, distributed by Warner Bros. Although eligible for consideration as a British film by Bafta’s own criteria (see below), the filmmakers themselves have chosen not to enter the film in the category, deciding instead to concentrate on best film.

“It didn’t feel appropriate, somehow, to be in two categories,” Dunkirk producer Emma Thomas tells Screen International. “It’s particularly and singularly a British story, there’s no question of that. But the thing that has been really gratifying to us is how much of a universal appeal the film has had.”

So I could be wrong, but I think now the Best Director Oscar is down to a three horse race between Del Toro, Nolan, and McDonnaugh.
Seems Del Toro is frontrunner with Nolan right behind him, but McDonnaugh has the advantage that it looks like "Three Billboards" is the Best Picture frontrunner.

Anyone agree or disagree?

I think Peele is out of the race at this point. But I wouldn't exclude Gerwig.

Also, super happy for the BAFTA nominations!

That ninth nomination is for Best British Film. I guess if you take that away it's tied with Dunkirk.

I am kind of surprised Joe Wright didn't get nominated for directing considering the film got so many nominations.
