Dunkirk was
#2 in Blu-ray sales
#5 in Home Media sales
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was another Warner title: the WWII drama Dunkirk. Director Christopher Nolan's experimental war epic proved a smash hit with both critics and audiences. In addition to its worldwide box-office haul of over $525 million worldwide on top of its estimated $100-million production budget, the film garnered rapturous critical notices (a Metacritic rating of 94%), ultimately winning eight Academy Award nominations, including ones for Best Cinematopgraphy, Best Editing, Best Original Score, Best Director, and Best Picture. Regarding the Blu-ray-only list, the film had a strong HD market share of 78% and sold 98% as many Blu-rays as Blade Runner 2049. On the overall package-media ranking, Dunkirk came in fifth place and sold 81% as many total units as the Blade Runner sequel.
Not surprised that BR2049 is doing so well. Comparing all the buzz with the low box-office numbers it seems like a film a ton of people want to check out on home video.
