yea I took my sister to see Despicable Me today (don't fucking judge me for liking it lmao), and saw Lowden's poster with an early screening announcement and my heart split in half

that sounds like a nightmare

also, Lee makes it seem like the goal of the feature was for a 70mm 5-perf print as opposed to a 15/70 IMAX print

interesting...

Yeah, seriously, what does the article mean by they had to turn the 1.43:1 IMAX shots into 2.20:1??

well when you’re creating a normal 5-perf 70mm print the aspect ratio ends up being 2.20:1, so obviously IMAX shots have to be reframed as the negative is much larger

however

the way this article is written makes it seem like Lee and Nolan want 5/70 as the intended output as opposed to 15/70

Does this mean the non-IMAX 70mm and digital prints are officially going to be 2.20 instead of 2.40? Or is only the 70mm 2.20?

i don't know...

they're supposed to be doing 35mm prints as well - which, for resolution purposes, i assume they would project anamorphically meaning the ratio would have to be 2.40 or 2.35 or whatever the exact number is

maybe digital projections will be 2.20 though; i think we're going to end up just having to wait until the film comes out lol

Yeah! I wonder what will they choose? 2.20:1 in a flat container or 2.39:1.
It's interesting that the trailers were scope but the TV spots were 2.20:1.
