So I just finished reading Jonah Nolan's 2008 draft. I read somewhere that C. Nolan said he left the first part of the story, the part on Earth, alone. I'm not sure that's fair, because it is pretty different.. the fair way to put it is that the Earth part of the story is the most recognizable. The moment they leave Earth, nothing is the same, although the ending is again.. recognizable, but still very different. I'd say the 2008 script is efficient, and one could almost make that movie today, retitle it, rework the first act, and you wouldn't see what it has in common with Interstellar. Go read it.. it's not hard to find on the internet. I'm not sure if I should post a link or not. So I won't... but beware SPOILERS below, if you don't want to know the differences. I'll start something below in a bit, but I'll give you guys a chance to read it if you haven't.
The only thing I'll say is that I like the shooting script much better. I'm sure the 2008 draft would've undergone more polish, as it's a little rough around the edges, but the story being told in the original just isn't as thought provoking, and clearly was not a Christopher Nolan kind of movie in that form. But because it's so different, I wouldn't mind seeing the original script out of curiosity... but I wouldn't take it over what was actually produced.
