Dude there is a real IMAX in Portage, IN. It uses digital projectors, but the screen is the real IMAX screen, not the small LIEMAX screen. This IMAX was made before 2009 when the LIEMAXes came out. They just converted it to digital during their running of Avatar back in 2009. It's still the normal size and spectacle of real IMAX, the projector is just digital. I'm just letting you know just in case it's closer to you than Indy. It sure is for me since I'm a Northwest Indiana resident.

I needed 6 tickets but was only able to get four.
The servers kept crashing, and they were completely sold out within an hour and a half.
This IMAX is a 15/70, one of only two in the Denver area.

Which theater was that? I'm going to The Henry Ford IMAX Theater (Dearborn, MI) which seats 440 people and they sold out in 28 minutes. The midnight option was also not showing up online so after about 5 minutes I called up, was put on hold for about 15 minutes, and then got my tickets. So I was on hold for about half the time it took to sell out. I wasn't on my cell phone and couldn't check my computer at the same time :suicide: and almost hung up to see if the midnight option was online yet. Good thing I didn't, as they answer the calls in the order you were put on hold. Anyway, due to "popular demand" (people undoubtedly being pissed off about the online fiasco) they added an encore showing at 3:15am.

Appreciate it, but Indy is about 2 hours away...and Portage is likely 4-5 hours away.

Digital IMAX = LIEMAX even if the screen is huge. It's just lower res spread on a bigger screen.

By the way, just how lower is the resolution? Still higher than a regular theater projector correct?

Can't you call your nearest theater about it?

I'm currently in Denmark and won't be in Turkey until the end of the month. I don't wanna get locked out on opening night :cry:

Not really. It's 2 x 2k projector (as opposed to only one in a smaller digital venue). Resolution wise, it's the same but spreaded on a bigger screen. It will perhaps boast a slightly brighter image due to the second projector. LIEMAX is really a big joke.. even more so when it's been retrofitted from a real size IMAX screen. I know that some IMAX theater have been retrofitted with 4K digital projector which, while CLEARLY not as good as 70/15 perf, is good. IMAX is leagues ahead of standard digital 2k projections. You should ask your theater owner what kind of equipment he's got. And tell him that it was fucking dumb to go digital.

1k = 1920×1080 Blu-ray
2k = 2048×1080 Most LIEMAX and digital projectors
4k = 4096×2160 Some rare high-end digital projector (35 mm film averages around that res.)
IMAX = approximately 10,000×7000

Well looks like my theater manager is a dipshit cause we used to run on normal IMAX until Avatar. Avatar fucking ruined film so badly and no conventional filmgoers understand that. Fuck Avatar and James Cameron.
