It doesn't really need to beat it from my own perspective, it just has to be a damn good film. If it is, and if I think The Dark Knight is better, I won't complain.

Ditto. TDK would have been a better film than BB regardless of Ledger, but he truly elevated parts of it into something strange. I have grave doubts over another actor having a similar effect on this next film's potency, though Hathaway and Hardy look promising in their roles. I wasn't impressed with Neeson as Al-Ghul, Freeman as Lucius, or even Bale as Bruce (aside from lacking the black-haired, blue-eyed physicality I expect Bruce to have, to me he seems frattier than the Bruce of the comics and Animated Series, and less able to convey Bruce's intelligence); in short, Nolan's casting ranges from genius (Ledger) to great (Oldman) to good (Eckhart, Cillian) to meh (Bale, Holmes).

Personally I don't mind if it isn't as good as TDK. If it's a notch or two below it, it will still be absolutely amazing.

I would be disappointed though if I thought it was the same quality as Batman Begins. Don't get me wrong, I love Batman Begins, it's a fantastic movie, but I just think TDK is on a whole other level.

While I think Batman Begins is the better film, I would be extremely dissapointed if if it doesn't match up to it since Nolan should know how to make our minds blown after The Dark Knight.

I couldn't agree more. That is the problem with people. They want each movie to be better than the last, especially in a trilogy. It doesn't have to be that way in order for each of them to be good. I don't care if TDKR is better than the Dark Knight, I just care if it lives up to it. If TDKR is just a notch or 2 down from TDK like you said, that's still an awesome movie.

Honestly I think there is a good chance it could be better than TDK, but that don't mean that the general public will like it better. The fans who love this thing as a trilogy, its likely it will be best to them and to the critics... but I think the rest of people will just see it as a good movie but not as good as TDK. TDK had a unique format to it. It kept you on edge the whole time. No flashbacks or anything that made it seem slow. I don't think TDKR will be quite like that constant train ride was. However, it will have higher peaks than TDK ever did. In between though there will be Bruce in prison and flashbacks of all the characters etc. So to the general public that just loved TDK as a great action movie, it will be good but not quite as classic.

I know you aren't an Inception fan, but Inception was full of flashbacks and still left people on the edge of their seat. I'm sure Nolan can pull off the same with TDKR if he does go into the origins of characters like Bane, and does massive leaps in time to cover the entire story.

I don't think that's fair. Nolan's Wayne isn't supposed to be exactly like the comics or the Animated Series.

Action-wise, it will top TDK.

what's with all these doubts all of a sudden? As far as I know "great" is still better than "good". That's why some films are considered great movies as opposed to just good movies.

Word trickling out from the ultra secret screening which included film chief Jeff Robinov and production president Greg Silverman is really good. “Aside from the usual tweaks and such,” our source over at the Bathouse said, “the suits seem genuinely pleased and rather ecstatic with the rough cut. Everyone will probably still be wondering about the Bane voice issue, but that won’t be one.”
