It doesn't really need to beat it from my own perspective, it just has to be a damn good film. If it is, and if I think The Dark Knight is better, I won't complain.
Ditto. TDK would have been a better film than BB regardless of Ledger, but he truly elevated parts of it into something strange. I have grave doubts over another actor having a similar effect on this next film's potency, though Hathaway and Hardy look promising in their roles. I wasn't impressed with Neeson as Al-Ghul, Freeman as Lucius, or even Bale as Bruce (aside from lacking the black-haired, blue-eyed physicality I expect Bruce to have, to me he seems frattier than the Bruce of the comics and Animated Series, and less able to convey Bruce's intelligence); in short, Nolan's casting ranges from genius (Ledger) to great (Oldman) to good (Eckhart, Cillian) to meh (Bale, Holmes).
