TDKR Lazarus Pit

I know this might fall under plot speculation, but I found there is no real thread devoted to the Lazarus PIt, so I thought I'd open one up. Whether it stays open long remains to be seen, but I thought it'd be fun to discuss. I think Nolan will interpret the Lazarus Pit more literally, if he includes it at all, but think there's a chance he could actually keep its comic book origins and still stay grounded in reality. Lazarus Pit is essentially a healing pool, so why not? Maybe it could be in the bottom of that prison we saw in the trailer. Anyone have any thoughts?

Personally I don't, or see any need for some kind of Lazarus Pit. I think if it where in these movies at all it would have been in BB because that was Ra's time around. I honestly doubt any type of Lazarus Pit will be in this. However, I could always be wrong.
Well see...

Yeah, having the Lazarus Pit in BB would've been best since that's when Ra's was the main villain, but the fact that they have Josh Pence playing a young Ra's in this one might mean we get a look back at his early life when the pit may have been there.

i think (or rather hoping!) it's a comic book version of the pit. i know it's a bit extreme and might be a tough sell to some fans, especially those not familiar with the mythology of the pit, but i think nolan is the one director who can pull it off. i mean, he has bane as the villain. BANE!

Not gonna happen. Nolan is Nolan. The Lazarus Pit just isn't something that will fit into this Batman story. Another one at another time in the future maybe. Nolan was the Man who brought Ra's into the big screen, which was bold because most people had never heard of him before... yet it was a success. So Nolan set the precedent for somebody else to use Ra's in a reboot, and from there it can be a bit more fantasy oriented and we can bring in the Lazarus Pit.

Haha no worries, my friend. Do you have any thoughts on the Lazarus Pit?

I think Nolan could pull it off for sure, but I like the idea of having it in a reboot, too. I feel after TDKR it might be a good palette cleanser to have maybe one film made in the same vein as Watchmen. Make batman a comic book movie with a comic book look. That way, you could explore the mystical elements of Batman, like the Lazarus Pit, and have it work in that universe. It'd also take less pressure off the next director whose film would be compared to Nolan's if they tried to ground it in reality. Have one Batman film have a comic book look (and maybe spin that off into a Justice League movie) and then a year or two later create a new one with the look and feel of Nolan's. Have two Batman's at once.

I really hope there isn't a Lazarus Pit. FWIW, I think Nolan can cherry pick different ideas from different Batman comics if he wants. These films are adapted from comic book characters, they aren't really comic book films (a la Marvel films).

If they go down the route of having a Lazarus Pit then I imagine it would be metaphorical (and if push came to shove, I would prefer this over a literal Lazarus Pit) rather than literal and like the comic books.

I think the prison could be called the 'Lazarus Pit' or something similar.

Bruce Wayne -"What Does it Mean?"

Tom Conti's character - "Rise."
