So what we are supposed to think about him at the end? Where is he? What happened to him? Does he came back to prison? :ninja:

The only option for that man is lethal injection. :(

Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow

I read the rumors about Crane being in TDKR as a judge during production, and before seeing the film I wondered how exactly he could fit into the film. I was afraid his scenes would end up feeling a bit "out of place", but I enjoyed them a lot, not only for their symbolic meaning in the context of the subversion or rules/roles in Gotham, but especially because of Cillian Murphy's acting. He just relishes it, he looks like a child playing his favorite game. It was creepy and fun to watch at the same time.

The two scenes were perfectly placed and performed by Murphy.

That was exactly my first reaction. He was like a kid with too much power and he was just having fun. Brilliant, huh.

I am fairly sure the "five years" is finding its way into various dialogues re: timelines between/among the films because it's mentioned in the "Art and Making of" book for the trilogy. Except it's from Christopher Nolan himself, and he's referencing not the actual chronology of the films, but Bruce Wayne's original plan for Batman: it was something like a five year plan to turn Gotham around, inspire the citizens, get the big criminals imprisoned, and make the Batman unnecessary.

Of course, that was Bruce's plan prior to the League's fear toxin getting into the water supply and the escalation represented by the Joker. Bruce did not imagine or foresee criminality's reaction to the Batman.

Which I sort of love. Nolan's Batman is quite human and fallible, instead of being the always right, always smarter than everyone else figure in the comics. You can tell in TDK he's way over his head, and simply could not image things getting this bad due, in some part, to his role in fighting Gotham's crime.

Just watched BB again and couldn't help but appreciate the perfect casting of Cillian for Scarecrow. I mean, if Chris had made a mistep and hired Crispin Glover... :eh:
