I could see that part of her background being left a mystery, especially considering that quote from Nolan (can't remember where it came from) about Hathaway being cast because she could imply a history to the character that wouldn't be expressly stated in the movie.

It's in Entertainment Weekly (April 20th issue). It said a "whole history" isn't in the script and is "never spelled out for the audience." That came from the article writer, who presumably got it or the impression of it from Nolan himself.

However, a leaked scene description from September 2011 delved a little bit into her background, that she

has a lengthy rap sheet. In this description it had the scene of Selina in the orange jumpsuit doing that flip she does in the third trailer.

but that scene is not a flashback...it happens in linear time in the movie. Because...

But then why would Blake ask her "Did they kill him?" He obviously recognizes her and is pretty obviously referring to Batman having his ass handed to him by Bane. He assumes she was there and witnessed it, and is proven true when she replies, "I'm not sure." She saw the beatdown, doesn't know the outcome.

So she's trying to flee from Bane, likely much after her introduction in the jail.

Yes! Someone agrees with me. I thought it was pretty clear Blake says "her". I've never heard him say him. I saw it in a GIF and thought they got it wrong; I come back here and everybody is talking about who "him" is.
