Nothing says "classy" much like Audrey Hepburn. I can definitely see why Nolan chose these women as the inspiration for Selina's style. It works flawlessly for Anne.

It's straight out of the comic books. The Catwoman originally had no backstory until years later when she was revealed to be Selina Kyle, an ordinary woman who had survived a deadly plane crash but was left with amnesia and became a criminal. Much of the stories in the following decades involved Selina trying to define and redefine herself. It's a nice move on Nolan's part.

yeah it makes more sense since the character's motives and allegiance are supposed to remain mysterious

also, we now know why Nolan specifically cast Hathaway over other actresses
