If you think a boring performance with no depth or nuance and just going through the motions is pretty good then yeah.. she was pretty good.

TBH I don't think it was the performance that lacked depth I think the character was underwritten. She probably did the best she could with what she had, and she was pretty creepy in her reveal I thought. She did a good job with the transformation, but the death scene was one really bad take that never should have made it into the film.

Ruffalo's character lacked depth on the page in Shutter Island but he still gave it depth with subtle nuances in his gestures from scene to scene.

I don't think her performance was boring. Her character was until her reveal which was well acted. Maggie Gyllenhaal suffered from the same problem in TDK: a boring assistant district but she portrayed her well. Katie Holmes was awful though.

But the character should not of been boring because let's be honest she was Talia and had scenes with Bruce and Fox ect. She could of done some interesting subtle things to show her true motives but she did not.. she just played it straight. I like Marion, it is just here, it felt phoned in and I was pretty disappointed because I always thought she would be great for Talia all along.

Perhaps you had something built up in your mind ahead of time, and that is the reason (at least partially) for your disappointment. I enjoyed her portrayal (but I wasn't spoiled before the movie came out; nor did I know anything about Talia from the comic books). In fact, you'll notice some foreshadowing in her opening act conversation with Daggett and later at the ball with Bruce. Of course, until we knew the story behind her, we wouldn't recognize the true meaning to what she says to them. Example: to Daggett she says something about how Daggett thinks money brings power (thus harken to Bane's later question to Daggett after Daggett says, "I've paid you a fortune"... "And this gives you power over me?") Then in the conversation with Bruce she says the proceeds of the "big, fat spread" would go to where it should (meaning the Bane Fund ;) ).

In most of her moments as Miranda she's just standing around saying lines, because that's all they required of her character. The other characters like Selina and Bane and Blake get to run around and punch stuff and she doesn't, because she's just a civilian businesswoman. Alfred gets all weepy. She and Lucius are kind of in the same boat for about 87% of the movie until the Miranda act is discarded. Even in the comics, her character isn't all that flashy, which is fine in most cases.

It wasn't Cotillard's best performance but it's also not the most dynamic material to build off of, anyway.

I thought she did fine, and I loved her reveal scene..I thought she did a great job with that:-) I know a lot of people didnt like her death scene, but I didnt think it was that bad either. I like Marion..I always wondered why Nolan didnt pursue her for Catwoman.

That's simply not true, I already explained in a previous post what she could of done rather than just going through the motions.

because she would of been miscast for that role.

I don't think she would have been miscast at all, I think she would have did a great job:-) Don't get me wrong I thought Hathaway did well, too.

Yeah her as Catwoman really wouldn't have worked. And I love her death scene. I think seeing her death saved Wayne's life. He didn't want to have to die to honor his parents.
