I feel for Bale, because he obviously hates doing these things. I also love it for the car-wreck appeal of Bale's "This is a huge fucking waste of my time" attitude.

I've got the impression that Bale chooses his attitude (or mood, persona?) consciously depends on the movie and his role in promoting the movie. A movie like TDKR, it promotes itself, so it seems that he doesn't feel the necessity to especially be nicer to the interviewers or to pretend to be engaged / interested. Well... it's just my impression.
